Name: Valmor Ernesto Bona Junior
Job: Architect and business owner Bona Studio (Bona Digital Architecture and Design)
3DA: Who founded Bona Architecture and what is the passional and technical background of the staff?
VB: I founded the company Bona Studio officially in March 2009. Before that, I worked as a freelancer since 2003. I had the first contact with 3D Studio Max around 1998 while I studied architecture in college (1998-2002). I was very involved and enthusiastic about the computer graphics and when I finished college I decided to work in this area.
3DA: How is the approach to the customers? Are you more practical and creative oriented or business and bureaucracy based?
VB: New customers are contacted by email, telephone and on-site visit of the company. A large proportion of our customers come to us by referral. Well, today I would say half of what I do each thing. I make contacts with clients, budgets, so today I’m more involved with the bureaucratic part of the company but do not want to leave out the part of the development of the images. In performing the services, I manage every step of a project, I guide step of the composition of scenes, decoration, materials, cameras, lighting and postproduction. The steps I perform are usually the camera position, lighting and postproduction.
3DA: How has Bona Studio evolved in time? What is the core meaning of the logo and why you adopted the green colour?
VB: In every new work we do, we try to evolve in quality, organization and optimization. We are in a great moment, beginning to act in new places, with new customers and increasing staff.
The green color of our logo comes from the family, of hope. My partner is my wife and together we have a son of 3 years and the company is what keeps our family financially and with which we prosper and help the prosperity of our customers and staff. The circle is the whole, perfection, wholeness, is the energy flowing!
3DA: Which was the most difficult work to complete and why?
VB: The hardest job was the “Arena Jaraguá”, a sports complex and multi-use built here in the city where I live. Were developed at that time, in 2006, 14 still images. At the time I was working alone and had only one computer with only one core processor to do all the work. Fortunately I managed to do all the work and the result pleased everyone.
3DA: Your staff is completely internal or is also based on freelancing?
VB: Today we are a team of four people on the spot and sometimes hire freelancers in periods with higher demand for labor.
3DA: Do you use pre-made 3D object (from Design Connected, Evermotion or others) or you model everything from scratch?
VB: Yes. I buy models on Design Connect, 3dsky, Turbosquid, etc. Many models were modeled ourselves.
3DA: What are you working on at the moment? Is it a funny project or an advantageous project…or both?
VB: We’re working in two big projects of architectural animation and soon we’ll be able to show the final result. We’re also doing other projects just with still images.
3DA: Can you give any suggestions to people that desire starting a business like Bona Studio, or to people that would like to apply in your office?
VB: Well, what I can say is that is a very interesting field and enjoyable to work with. Come many challenges on the way to engage the business. You must have a lot of passion for working in this area, as in any other area, if there is no passion, you will not have enough strength and love to take the business forward and do a good job. You also have to study many softwares, but mainly studying architecture, decoration, composition, lighting, everything that involves photography.
