3DA: How and when did you start working in 3D and architecture field?
WSM:
Three years ago when I applied for Master of Architecture I began to get in touch with 3D for architecture. I’m interested in two aspects of the field. First: Render to show the new materials and new technology. Second: Use new technology to help architectural design .I think 3D technology has an important function. On the one hand 3D technology is the expression of the design ideas. and more important 3D technology can display some design  which is difficult to achieve or difficult to predict in realistic conditions,so the functions can help a designer in the product development

3DA:What software and plug-ins do you prefer in your daily work?
WSM: For modeling I prefer to use Rhinoceros + Grasshopper + Python. For rendering I like Maxwell. Also Photoshop is important for postproduction

3DA: Where you take your inspiration?
WSM: There are a lot of inspiration sources, and I’d like to begin from the bionics and mathematics. Mathematical beauty is not only in form, but also in structure! Mathematics is very rigorous. When people begin to build the construction based on a drawing mathematics plays the main role. We can learn a lot of things with the help of nature. I hope my design can help people to solve social problems – I have a great interest in sociological research.

3DA: What gives you the most satisfaction?
WSM:  I think I get most satisfaction from the opportunity to learn and to improve my skills, I enjoy noticing the continuous progress. Also I would like to tell you about one of my recent projects – it was a sports center where I tried to implement a tensional integrity method for making the roof. I also carefully designed the drainage system, so when it rains the sports center will demonstrate a spectacular effect: it will resemble a huge waterfall. In another project last year I used an advanced fabric weaved structure similar to a complex biological body and a constantly changing lighting system – this techniques made the designed pavilion a static & dynamic and lights & shadows combination body.  This is an interactive approach  that allows the architecture to be in the same time made by man and designed for nature, and I am very proud of it.

3DA:What would you suggest to people that are approaching to 3D and architecture?
WSM:  It is important to use new technologies and understand historical heritage. Part of the designers are too much concentrated on working with 3d that they forget that the render is no the final construction. Another part of designers are retrograde and do not accept new influences and ideas. These both attitudes, to my mind, are wrong. As designers we should always consider the final project and its environmental impact. 70% of Earth’s energy consumption is done by buildings. We need to consider the future of ourselves and our children. We have to create buildings with a soul – has never been so simple and it has never been so difficult in the same time.
