Blender 5.2 LTS is now officially available, bringing one of the largest Long-Term Support releases in recent years. As anticipated in our previous article covering Blender’s 2026 roadmap, this update focuses on performance improvements, workflow refinements and a wide range of new features across nearly every area of the software.

Geometry Nodes

Blender 5.2 also introduces a completely new procedural simulation framework based on the XPBD Solver node. Replacing the previous cloth and hair simulation approach, the new system gives technical artists much more control over simulation behavior and even allows custom physics systems to be built directly through nodes.

Cycles Improvements
Cycles receives several performance optimizations designed to reduce memory consumption while improving rendering efficiency.
The most important addition is the new Texture Cache, which automatically generates optimized texture files to reduce memory usage and speed up scene loading. A new Auto Generate option creates and updates .tx files whenever source textures change, making texture management more efficient, especially in larger production scenes.
The update also expands the Principled BSDF shader with a new Paper material mode, providing a more physically accurate approximation for translucent and paper-like materials.

Eevee Evolved
Blender 5.2 LTS also continues the evolution of Eevee, refining many of the workflow changes introduced with Eevee Next.
One of the main additions is the new Backface option for Screen Tracing. When enabled, rays intersecting the back side of visible geometry are treated as valid hits rather than misses, improving reflections and screen-space lighting in many production scenarios.
While relatively small on paper, this update addresses one of the usability issues introduced during the transition to Eevee Next and contributes to more predictable rendering behavior.

Compositor Updates
The compositor also receives several workflow improvements that expand both its creative capabilities and ease of use.
The Asset Library now includes additional ready-made effects inspired by filmic grading, watercolor and oil painting styles, alongside new utility node groups that simplify the creation of reusable compositing setups.
Another welcome addition is Autokeying for Gizmos. Users can now animate transformations directly from viewport gizmos while Blender automatically inserts the required keyframes, making interactive compositing workflows much faster.
Grease Pencil
Grease Pencil receives a combination of new drawing tools, performance improvements and additional creative assets.
A major addition is the new Delaunay Fill algorithm, which automatically generates fill boundaries from strokes while supporting gap detection, inverse filling and zoom-independent results. This significantly simplifies the coloring workflow for hand-drawn artwork.
The update also introduces new placement controls for dot and square line materials, allowing artists to better control how shapes are distributed along strokes.
Performance has also been improved by generating strokes at render time instead of subdividing them during editing.
Finally, Blender Studio artist Daniel Martins Lara contributed 19 new Grease Pencil brushes, expanding the default drawing toolkit.

Sculpt Mode
Blender 5.2 LTS introduces several quality-of-life improvements for sculpting workflows.
Artists can now add primitive objects—including cubes, cones, cylinders, UV spheres and icospheres—directly from Sculpt Mode without switching workspaces, streamlining the early stages of sculpt creation.
Another important addition is the Scene Project Brush, which projects surfaces onto nearby geometry while preserving painted colors during repeated voxel remeshing operations.
The voxel remesher itself has also been improved with support for interpolating vertex and corner attributes, helping preserve painted meshes throughout the sculpting process.

Minor Updates
Alongside the major additions, Blender 5.2 LTS also includes several smaller but useful improvements.
- Animation playback now supports multiple loop modes, including Infinite, Stop at End Frame, Stop at Start Frame, Restore Frame and Bounce.
- The update also delivers numerous interface refinements aimed at making Blender more intuitive and improving the overall user experience across the application.
